Without Fear

Without Fear –by Vincent Alma

Fiction / Teaching Parable
14 pages / 1629 KB

This is not a novel, it is a well-written short story about a farmer who desires above all else to become a knight, and how he goes about attaining that goal, and how it changes his life.

Our hero goes through many trials and tribulations, he first must recognize his enemy and then defeat him as he learns his many lessons. This story could be considered a fable, a fairy tale, or a parable. Perhaps a series of parables within the story as there are several lessons to be learned.

It would make a great manga, or a great illustrated children's book. Although written so children can read and understand it, adults will also enjoy reading it. A perfect book for adults and children to read together and discuss the various lessons our hero learns, how they affect him, and how we might be affected as we learn.

Disclaimer: I was given a copy of this story by the author and asked for a review.

White Heart

White Heart –by Sherry Jones

I expected a novel, not a short story, in that regard, I was sorely disappointed. It was a great read, just too short! And, I do want more, so will pick up Four Sisters, All Queens.

European history is not my most favorite reading (I tend toward Asian histories) so it was a switch for me to read this story of Blanche of Castille and how she wrested control of France after her husband's death for her son, the 9th Louis, and managed to keep it.

If you're looking for a novel, don't pick it up. If you're looking for a pleasant and well written read, this just may be your ticket.

OK, I admit, I didn't do my homework, and thought I was buying a full fledged novel when I bought this (caveat emptor!) short story. While it was a fun read, it was also somewhat predictable. It was fun, and I enjoy the protagonist, ADA Rachel Knight.

I don't want to give away the ending, but if you're as old as I am, you've seen it on Perry Mason;-) And, you'll recognize it. I think I've seen it on a couple other shows of similar ilk.

For $0.99 it was worth it. And, like I said, if I'd done my due diligence, I still would have bought it, but wouldn't have been so upset on page 45 to find the end!

Of course, if I claimed to be smart, I would have noticed it said A Rachel Knight STORY and not Novel. But, I've never claimed to be smart.

Buy it. Read it. Enjoy it.
