Another piece of delightful brain candy from Ms. Johnson. I don’t think you need to read these books in order, I certainly haven’t, and haven’t had a problem keeping up with them. I do suggest you read the first one first, just to get a back story of the characters and story line.

 

The universe is great fun, nothing that will give you nightmares if you read in bed. A great commentary on the prejudices that run rampant in our own world, without beating you about the head and shoulders. That commentary does not detract a whit from the story of a bride who died right after the ceremony. And Daisy, our truth sniffing dog has a severe case of allergies and can’t smell anything! Can Peter and Jolene solve the murder without Daisy? You’ll have to read it to find out.

Jolene, Peter, and the truth-sniffing Daisy are back for another fun romp through Darkmoon. If murder and mayhem can be fun. This time, or intrepid pet psychic needs to solve the murders of two women dead by spider bite, and the spider was the familiar of one of the women. When the witch dies, so dies her familiar.

 

Daisy the Dog still dislikes Jolene intensely, and the feeling is pretty mutual. Fortunately, the spider is already dying by the time we meet her (him?), and there are plenty of people who want the witch dead. But the Fashion Designer? Not so many. Or, are there?

 

No nightmare if read at night before turning the light off. Just a fun read with fun characters.

This is the 3d book in the series, including the prequel, I’ve read. They are fun little stories. Just what the doctor ordered for cold, gray, January days. Ms. Johnson’s universe is great fun, and within the bounds of her setting, believable. 

 

I had no problem reading this book out of sequence, which is goodness to my way of thinking.

 

We need fun in our lives, and if it comes tasting like a decadent dessert, but has no calories, so much the better!

Having read the prequel, Saved by the Spell, a Novella, when I came upon Pretty Little Fliers, Book 1 of the Magic Market Mysteries series, I grabbed it. And look forward to the next in the series.

 

Ms. Johnson has created a fun universe where it appears everyone has magic of one sort or another—except our heroine. She had magic, at one time, and then ran into a spell that deleted it. At one time, our heroine had a life, a job as a lawyer, the ability to shift, an affianced—then she met someone who didn’t like her and wham, zam, not anymore ma’am. So she get’s to live in the slums as a pet psychic, gets involved in a murder, falls for the hunka hunka cop who is sweet, but borderline clueless, and I’m not gonna tell you anymore!

 

I easily put this book on the shelf labeled: Calorie-Free Reading. It’s fun. Period. And we need fun in our lives. A great story for bedtime, no adrenaline gushing, no foul language (well, not in our language anyhow), no graphic descriptions of torture or anything else. If my preteen daughter wanted to read it, I wouldn’t hesitate to loan it to her.
